     << Ivan Maksymovych Soshenko (Ukrainian: Іван Максимович Сошенко, 2 June 1807 Bohuslav, in the Kiev Governorate of the Russian Empire — 18 July 1876 Korsun) was a Ukrainian painter.Soshenko studied at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts from 1834–8, then taught painting in gymnasiums in Nizhyn from 1839–46, Nemyriv from 1846–56, and Kiev. His work included portraits, genre scenes, landscapes, and religious icons.[2]In 1835 he met and befriended Taras Shevchenko.[3] Along with teaching him the use of watercolors,[4] Soshenko also introduced him to authors and painters Yevhen Hrebinka, Vasily Zhukovsky, Karl Briullov, and Alexey Venetsianov, and helped in the purchase Shevchenko's freedom from serfdom. Later, he helped Shevchenko to be admitted to the St Petersburg Academy of Arts. >>
     Ось ці дві фрази, виділені жирним виражають усю суть цієї історії. А в Богуславі, батьківщині Сошенка, люди звикли говорити "Не було б Сошенка - Не було б Шевченка", від себе додам "Не було б Шевченка - Не було б України", а потім іще додам "Такої як ви її бачите зараз", бо Україна існувала спокон віків... Але вшануємо пам'ять Сошенка, за те що врятував для нас Кобзаря. Перегляньмо ж його роботи.

     I would like to talk today about Soshenko and its contribution to Ukraine life.
     On the website of the Ukrainian wikipedia you can find detailed information about this outstanding person.

     But I became curious becouse of English version of the article. You can see here almost all of the information presented in the English Wikipedia. And I want to pay your attention to several key sentences wich are presented in bold. They represent the whole essence of the story. In Boguslav, Soshenko's home, people used to say "If there was no Soshenko - Shevchenko might was not exist" i would like to add "If there was no Shevchenko -  Ukraine might was not exist" and i would add "Ukraine, such as you see this land now" because Ukraine existed through ages in hearts of our ancestors... But lets make the tribute to Soshenko, because he had saved our Poet. Here you can see him works.
